The Bigger Boat mentors young business entrepreneur

We recently announced the victor of a branding competition we ran following our successful workshop delivered at the University of Huddersfield.

Winner Daniel Fisher-Jones is now receiving The Bigger Boat’s mentoring support in creating a brand identity for his business, Liverpool Audio Network (LAN). The news comes after we delivered a one-hour tutorial to Daniel and his fellow undergraduate peers on the Enterprise Placement Year (EPY) programme. During this academic year placement, students look to research, plan and start their own business.

The interactive workshop, given by our creative director Doug Main, shared advice on the most important considerations when creating a brand identity in the hope the students would leave with actionable takeaways to bring to life their initial design ideas. They completed a brand essence review in the hopes of winning our help with brand identity development for their business.

Since the announcement, we’ve invited winner Daniel to TBB Towers to thrash out design possibilities and define his brand messaging and he’s now receiving our help with the creation of a complete design concept for his company.

Daniel commented: “Being chosen by The Bigger Boat not only surprised me but it has also given me a wonderful opportunity to vitally re-think my organisation’s brand identity, which is now over a year old. As my venture has developed since its launch, a rebrand – to resonate with the business’ future – couldn’t have come at a better time. And the passion and expertise that The Bigger Boat has shown is invaluable.”

After the success of the first workshop, Doug and the guys were invited back to the university to deliver a follow-up session. They re-capped on exactly what a brand identity is and offered tips on how start-up businesses can ensure they set themselves apart in the market via a well-defined brand identity.

Doug explained: “It’s really important to us to give something back to the next generation of entrepreneurs, and working alongside The Enterprise Team at the university has enabled us to hopefully inspire – and help – up-and-coming businesses.”

We’re looking forward to our continued work with competition winner Daniel.
