We're sponsoring a sailor!
He’s represented Team GB, overcome blustery conditions, and continues to make a splash in the global sailing circuit. We’re thrilled to sponsor this talented young sailor, still only 14.
Here, we introduce Freddie MacLaverty, sharing his sailing highlights so far and revealing what’s next on the horizon, with TBB sailing alongside (literally).
Freddie’s sailing journey
Sailing since the tender age of seven, Freddie started in a mirror dinghy at Red Wharf Bay Sailing Club in Anglesey, North Wales, before progressing to an RS Tera at Llandudno Sailing Club and his school.
In 2016, at the age of eight, he joined the RS Tera National development squad, travelling throughout England and Wales at weekends to train. Competing at his first international event in 2017 - the RS Tera World Championships in Carnac, France - he was the youngest member of the GB team and held the great honour of flag bearer.
2017 saw another year of training with the Tera squad and Freddie’s first bullet (race win) in the World Championships at the RS Games in Weymouth, leading to an overall position of 13th. The following year, Freddie finished in the top 10 at the World Championships in Sweden.
In 2020, after finishing in second place at the RS Tera National Championships (there were no international events this year due to Covid) Freddie outgrew the Tera and transitioned to an ILCA 4.7.
In 2022, Freddie was in the top fifteen in GBR, and was chosen to be a member of the 21-strong team that represented GB at the World Championships in Portugal, involving over 400 competitors.
What’s next?
Freddie has now transitioned to the ILCA6 and is a member of the Welsh Youth Squad, training most weekends. As one of the top nine sailors by UK ranking, he has been awarded a place at the Youth World Championships in Poland from 1st-9th July, representing GB.
You’re gonna need a bigger boat!
As a business passionate about supporting blossoming talent, we couldn’t pass the opportunity to support Freddie. Our sponsorship has enabled the bright young sailor to buy a brand new sail in time for this prestigious event. So, not only are we excited to follow Freddie on his journey, we’re also very much looking forward to seeing our branding take to the waves, on the sail, boom, and hull of Freddie’s boat. Team TBB for Team GB! And of course, Team Freddie!
